We're about to use SmartStep on one of our units. I'd agree with Don's comments regarding traditional manual step testing. Making sure the operators know who you are and you know who they are, and what they do in the field, are vital parts of a successful project.

However, Smartstep should enable engineers to maintain and develop more controllers more effectively.

The inevitable quote has already appeared in my organisation "ah, that means we can have less advanced control engineers" !
